Subject: Mathematics | Time: 60 minutes |
Topic: Geometrical shapes Perimeters | Grade: III – V |
Resources: Concrete material for hands on activities Geo-board Worksheets | Methodology: Hands-on activities Demonstration method Exercise practice |
Objective: Students will be able to:
- Recognize point, line segment, line, ray
- Classify figures according to the number of sides as quadrilaterals (rectangles, squares) and triangles
- Define perimeter
- Calculate perimeters of squares, rectangles and triangles
- Identify circle, its center, radius, diameter, circumference and chord
Procedure:
Facilitator will define point, line segment, line, plane and ray by drawing shapes on board, Further examples will be given from surrounding figures present in the class. (15 min)
Classify figures according to number of sides and angles as quadrilaterals (rectangles, squares) and triangles. For an activity facilitator will formulate geo-board in the class or bring convenient (readymade) geo-board to make shapes. Randomly few participants will be asked to come forward and make shape of their interest. (20 min)

The facilitator will brainstorm participants about the topic then discuss the perimeter of different geometrical figures. With the help of instruments, he will draw shapes on the board measurement of their perimeter. A simple activity, give participant some related shapes to measure perimeter in the class to assess their understanding (15 min)
The facilitator will identify the circle and its other parts as radius, diameter, circumference, and chord. For an activity, he will draw a circle on board, participants will name center, radius, diameter, circumference, and chord of a given figure. (15 min)
Evaluation/Feedback:
Worksheet.01 Find the shapes in your classroom, mention number of squares, rectangles, triangles and circles. Focus on walls, windows, doors etc.
Worksheet.02 Draw two squares, two rectangles and triangles by joining the given dots:
